Objectives
The problem we aim to solve:
With the adoption of the Law on Youth Participation and Youth Policies (LYPYP), young people in
North Macedonia gained hope for improving their standards, opportunities, access to institutions, and most importantly, their increased involvement in the creation of public policies that affect them. It was expected to improve the position of young people, their timely information, and inclusion in the planning of activities for young people. This did not happen, and furthermore, there are no mechanisms to solve this problem. Although local youth councils and assemblies were legally required to be created in every municipality, only 23% of municipalities have implemented them in accordance with the law and within the initial timeframe. To make matters more alarming, there are no legal acts available foreseen with in the LYPYP to demand accountability and sanction for the non-fulfillment of the legal obligation to create these local youth councils.
